Faster and Better: 5 tips to speed up your computer
A slow computer is a familiar problem for many users. It is not just frustrating but also decreases productivity. Identifying what exactly slows your device down can be challenging because of the complexity of inner systems. But this doesn’t mean that you have to continue struggling. Here are five simple tips to speed your computer up.
1. Defragment your hard drive.
The more data is stored on your computer, the more uneven the data distribution becomes. As a result, fragmented data is more challenging to piece together, and this process takes longer to complete. Disk defragmentation helps to reorganize data and increase performance.
2. Disable background programs.
A slow computer is often caused by too many programs running simultaneously. Some of them could be run in the background without you even knowing it. To check your computer’s workload, use Task Manager, which can be accessed by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL. It is possible to close unnecessary programs directly from the Task Manager.
3. Don’t overload the memory.
Any operating system needs enough free space to work adequately. Make sure that there is at least 500 MB of disk space available to help your OS manage the files better. Empty your recycling bun, remove some unwanted programs, and delete temporary files to get more free space.
4. Check your start-up list.
When a computer loads up, it automatically initializes a long list of programs that are listed in your System Configuration. The more programs there are in the list, the longer it takes to load up. However, not all of them are necessary during the start-up process and can be skipped. To save some time, review your start-up list using the MSConfig.
5. Scan for malware and viruses.
Some viruses that are run in the background could slow your computer down, so if everything else is in order, consider a case of being infected. To prevent the impact of the malware, you need to maintain the best security practices. Never entrust your sensitive data to free antivirus, and don’t expect just one layer of security to keep you safe.
