Empowering Women in Tech: Carin Weiss's Journey

Carin Weiss is a powerhouse in the sales arena, with an unending passion for the field and a knack for impactful networking. From her early fascination with gadgets to her current role at Klik, Carin’s story is one of determination, resilience, and unwavering passion for leveraging technology to drive innovation.

The Spark of Passion for Tech

Carin’s affinity for technology began in childhood. “Since I was a kid, I’ve loved gadgets,” she shares. “Tech and tools to work smarter always intrigued me.” Unbeknownst to her, this early fascination laid the groundwork for her future career path.

However, it wasn’t until her first sales job at a Value Added Reseller (VAR) specializing in Auto-ID solutions that Carin found her true calling in the tech world. “I had to learn the different technologies and solutions we sold so I could make recommendations and build solutions for my clients,” she recalls. “I loved it. It allowed me to get creative with solutions and truly help my clients.”

Navigating the male-dominated and old-school Auto-ID industry presented its challenges, but Carin’s dedication and hard work propelled her to excel. “There were powerful women who stood out, and I was determined to be one of them,” she asserts.

Her Journey to Klik

Carin’s journey led her to Klik through a serendipitous encounter while working with a Cybersecurity startup. Introduced to Neil, one of Klik’s co-founders, Carin was immediately drawn to the company’s innovative approach, particularly in the realm of Cyber as a Service. “Even in 2019, it was becoming obvious that cyber was no longer something you go back and review every year or two,” she explains. “Threats kept building, and clients benefit from ongoing monitoring and support.”

The Thrill of Tech Sales

For Carin, tech sales is more than just a job—it’s a passion. “I love how technology is always changing and improving,” she shares. “Having the freedom to get creative and build solutions, and helping clients succeed by leveraging technology—it’s incredibly rewarding.”

But breaking into the tech sales arena as a woman wasn’t without its hurdles. “Having to know what you’re talking about as to not be dismissed was a challenge, especially in the early 2000s,” Carin reflects. “But I was tenacious about having a seat at the table.”

One pivotal experience stands out: being the only woman and the youngest in a room of older men during a client meeting. “I brought the best solution to the table, but was sidelined and told I looked pretty,” Carin recalls. “From that point on, I always carried goggles and closed-toed shoes to site visits so I’d never get caught off guard again.”

The Perks and Excitement of the Field

Despite the challenges, Carin finds immense joy in her work. “Breaking down solutions in a way that everyone can digest, making an impact on clients’ pain points, and the versatility of working with any industry—these are the perks that keep me going,” she says.

Carin’s excitement for the field is palpable, especially when it comes to new technologies like cybersecurity, compliance programs, analytics, and AI. “I geek out on new technologies and solutions,” she admits. “And I’m always eager to learn and share knowledge with others.”

What It Means to Be a Woman in Tech

For Carin, being a woman in tech is about more than just technical expertise—it’s about partnerships, encouragement, and connection. “I’m not technical, but I know enough to identify needs and when to pull in the big guns,” she explains. “Partnerships, whether with co-workers or business partners, are critical.”

Encouraging other women to get involved in the tech industry is a mission close to Carin’s heart. “Maintaining connections and never burning bridges is key,” she emphasizes. “We’re stronger together, and by supporting each other, we can overcome any obstacle.”
