My Invite Got Lost in the Mail; Attending the Grammys Virtually
Awards season is upon us, and on Sunday, February 2nd, 2025, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, the top artists of the year gathered for the 67th annual Grammy Awards. As much as I would have loved to give you the inside scoop from the star-studded evening, it appears my invitation must have gotten lost in the mail…
However, that doesn’t mean I can’t stay up to date with the fabulous looks that graced the red carpet, and the awards doled out to the lucky winners.
At first, my plan was to watch the Grammys live presumably through one of the many streaming services I subscribe to, but of course, only the users of Paramount + WITH a Live TV extension would be able to comfortably watch live without cable. Unfortunately, among the many services I subscribe to, Paramount + Live TV is not one of them. Disappointed, I thought to myself there must be a way to stay up-to-date with the Grammys and all the excitement it evokes in music lovers around the world.
I decided to take to the internet in true TechBarbie fashion to find a way to be connected to the glamorous event. Then, I discovered that the Grammys’ show runners were planning something special for viewers like me.
On the Grammys website there were multiple boxes to select from, each providing a different perspective on the evening.
The first box I clicked broadcasted the smaller less anticipated awards that are presented while the biggest stars arrive.
One box shared a livestream from the red carpet, focusing on the exquisite looks and charming interviews found on the Grammys red carpet.
Another box gave a special look at the stars as they arrived and pushed their way through a sea of eager paparazzi and doting fans.
You could even take in the event from a bird’s eye view!
It was as close to being there as possible without, you know, actually attending the event.
Consider how amazing it is that from our phones and computers we have such access to the biggest night in music, making everyone feel like a VIP. Though it would have been incredible to have been there watching the showstopping performances and shedding a tear with the artists overwhelmed by gratitude for being awarded such an honor.
I didn’t watch the entirety of the Grammys, for I knew when I woke up there would be a flood of videos, and pictures on social media documenting the night from beginning to end. I simply searched Grammys 2025, and my phone came alive with clips of performances, spoilers for who won what, and the most emotional, laughable and unforgettable moments of the night, not to mention the artists who made the best and the worst dressed list.
Overall, I’m not that disappointed that my invitation got lost in the mail. It’s happened before, but I don’t mind because I was able to follow the action, keeping my finger on the pulse of the event with livestreams hosted by the award show and social media posts that kept me laughing, crying and applauding at the same time. The biggest night in music isn’t just about the artists, it’s about the listeners too, the people who made this night possible for those artists by streaming and supporting their music. It’s amazing to see the artists you love receive their flowers or win the award you knew they deserved.
For example, two of my favorite artists, Charli XCX and Chappell Roan, both of whom I’ve talked about in the blog, were first time Grammy award winners Sunday night!
Charli has been in the music industry for over a decade, consistently pushing the boundaries of mainstream pop by infusing it with electronic dance music from the club. Although she was praised for being ahead of her time, at heart, every artist wants to be recognized in the now. Last night, she took home 3 Grammys, one for Best Dance Pop Recording (for Von Dutch), Best Dance/Electronic Album (Brat) and Best Recording Package (thanks to every party girl’s album of the year, Brat).
They say it takes ten years to become an overnight success, and this couldn’t be more true for the Grammy award winner for Best New Artist, Chappell Roan. From making music in high school to signing her first record deal and subsequently being dropped by her label, Chappell’s journey to this moment has been far from easy. But when she found the right producers, the right sound, and the right audience, she took the pop music world by storm. No one deserved the title of Best New Artist more than “your favorite artist’s favorite artist”, Chappell Roan.
With more awards shows to come, here’s to hoping my next invite doesn’t get lost in the mail!
